ms surface pro4 keyboard not functioning
my ms surface pro4 off-screen keyboard loses contact or does not function from time to time. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

it sounds like the keyboard cable has dislodged a little. this is actually very common with this computer. the solution most of the time is to take the laptop apart very carefully since there is a cable that connects the bottom of the laptop to the logic board, and reseat the keyboard cable. I just had to fix this exact issue last week. I really hope that is what is wrong with your computer and that you are able to get it working correctly soon.

Thanks. This worked on the first few instances it happened but not recently. I fixed the problem by detaching the type cover and doing a suggested solution by surface.com: cleaning the tips of the 4 connectors with a cotton swab and alcohol. I hope I don't have to do this all the time.
it is best to err on the side of caution. so i would do that solution again even though i know that it is a pain. but i believe that it is less painful then having to pay $100 just for someone to try to figure out whats wrong with it in the first place. also i probably should have mentioned this earlier but make sure all of your drivers are up to date

well done Jesse - my surface 3 started the MS game, will I, won’t I, work today, finally error message ‘cannot connect USB device and the type cover stopped working altogether.
I looked at other solutions first, dismantling the tablet seemed too hard, then I found your suggestion. I cleaned both the little contact pins and the contacts on the tablet side with isopropyl - worked perfectly ever since - many thanks, I had even considered buying a new one - you saved me megabucks

I think Microsoft should cover that under warranty as it should not do that.
I know that my cover loses connection if used near 130° or more.
But if I use it as intended it works fine.
