Where is the Hall effect sensor located in the Apple watch?

Hi!

I'm doing a research about the components of the Apple watch. I red that the rotation of the Digital Crown is sensored with a Hall effect sensor. Where is this Hall effect sensor located in the watch?

Is this component on the button pcb the Hall effect sensor? If I see correctly, it connects below the Digital Crown.

Thank you!

You are probably right. One way to check is to use a pin or paper clip and hold it near the knob, turn the knob and see if you feel fluctuation in magnetic field. You might be able to do the same with a magnetic compass to see if the needle moves when the knob is turned.

Thanks! Since then I found this. http://www.idownloadblog.com/2015/05/25/...

At the digital crown part it says that an optical encoder is sensing the rotation. So I think now that the component on the button pcb is the optical sensor and it reads the stripes of the cylinder. If you look at closely there are tiny stripes on it.

Yes, testing definitely will be helpful.

What do you think?
