My nintendo 3ds xl wont turn on or charge.

Hi all, I'm very new to the forum. I wanted to get into some console repair work as a hobby so I bought a broken nintendo 3ds xl off of eBay. When the console came in the mail it would not charge, would not power on, does not snap or pop, and there is no light that comes on whatsoever - so in other words the system is completely unresponsive.

Here's a list of the things that I have done.

• attempted to charge the console with two different chargers.

• tested the battery for charge and any obvious damage. (looked completely healthy and had 2.4 volts out of 3.7 volts at max charge.)

• taken apart the system completely in search of any obvious damage.

- I have found a lot of rusty colored corrosion within the system - but no obvious melting of components that I can see has taken place..

I will try and figure out how to add some pictures of the corrosion that I found within the system to give you a "look see" as to what might be going on.

The system appears to have been damaged in water. It looks as though you need a system board.

So does that means that I couldn't replace the bad parts on the board, I'll just need a whole new one?

I would try and find another system board and if you can't find one, I would find another 3DS.

Hi there, I would suggest cleaning the corrosion off the board with some 91% isopropal alcohol and look under a magnifier for contacts that have been corroded. This is a double sided circuit board and those tiny holes are pass thru's and can be re-soldered. If you have soldering experience it is possible to "re connect" these with a fine pointed tip. I have a 3DS XL that has the same issue and will post back my results.

Note: This is a very sensitive type of repair and should only be attempted by those that possess excellent soldering skills.

I might agree with Eric except that this is water damage and not broken solder joints. Please understand that I am an electronics engineer and work as a technician. I have seen this type of damage enough times to know what I'm talking about.
