Syncing my Garmin vivofit

Seems that I have to sync my vivofit daily. Is this correct. I had a fitbit prior to this and never had to do this.

Technically the vivofit series can store up to 30 days worth of step data until it needs to be synced. This changes to 12 days, if you use the heart rate strap with it.

Just bare in mind that the longer you go with out syncing the more data you put at risk to loosing. It is a battery powered device and things can happen to data especially if the battery is getting low. The watch checks the battery every night at midnight and if it is below a certain voltage it will flag the battery as being low the next time you sync the watch. but what happens if you don't sync the watch well the battery could run down low enough that the watch would be unable to hold a bluetooth connection long enough to sync all the data off of it.

When you first get the watch and have not set it up, just clicking the button will cycle through Steps, Goal, and Pair. Holding the button down will put the watch in to pairing mode. You can tell it's in pairing mode because it will flash pair and then a 4 digit number for a minute before it times out and says pair again.

Once you have paired it with the Garmin Connect mobile app or Garmin Express with an ANT stick on a computer, it will have other options. Clicking the button will display steps, goal, distance, calories, date, and time. Holding the button will display: sync, sleep, pair, and about. Holding the button down until the screen goes blank, or until you see a white triangle will do a soft reset.

To reset the watch all the way it is necessary to remove the batteries for longer than ten minutes.

A common mistake people make is to put the band on backwards and then the button doesn't work. Make sure the flat spot on the device lines up with the button on the band.

I set up my VivoFit with my Android phone, but it does not get out of the cycle of Steps, Goal, and Pair.

I was stuck in the same loop. Try removing the batteries for 10+ minutes and then put them on again and pair again your vivofit to your Garmin Connect. It miraculously worked for me!
