Won't Power On, loud fan noise

Recently my Imac g5 froze up and when rebooting it went to a black screen and the fan would make a very loud sound. I tried repeatedly to restart and nothing. I also noticed taht I was not getting a chime noise. I tried resetting the PRAM etc...nothing. I let it sit for a couple of days and then tried restarting to get a chime, loud fan noise and then what looked like a cracked screen graphic. Someone told me it could be power supply or logic board. Could use some help on this

If you have the installation cd try re-booting from it. Careful not to clean-install on first attempt, although you might eventually have to do so.

At least this way, you will be able to figure out if your problem is hardware or software.

To reboot from the cd with the power off, I need to know if you have a laptop or desktop.

By booting to the CD meaning, with the power off you insert CD, hold and maintain C key and power up? While continuing to hold the C key until you take root... ? lol

I am assuming that you don't have another Mac around?

Hi, I have almost the same issue, I don't hear the chime, the LEDS. The first and second light up but the third don't. I replaced the caps omy logic board and on the psu. I have another iMac same model and everything, I replaced the caps on that one too but it's working like new, so I test the logic board of the good one on the bad one and it started like normal, my question is do you think the caps I replaced I put them wrong or the logic board is really dead?
