My laptop isn't restarting after a power surge

The CMOS battery needs to be left in. It maintains the necessary configuration settings in BIOS for your laptop to work properly.

Re-install the CMOS battery and leave it there (make sure that it is installed the correct way), and then try the following:

Remove the main battery pack and the adapter from the laptop.

Press and hold the power button on the laptop for 15 seconds and then release it

Reinsert the adapter (leave out the battery pack at this stage) and switch it on. Turn on the laptop. You may get a message about the date and time due to the CMOS battery being removed previously. If the laptop boots into Windows, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop. Once there, shutdown the laptop in the normal manner.

When the laptop has shutdown, turn off the power to the adapter, reinsert the battery pack, turn on the power to the adapter and then turn on the laptop.

Allow the laptop to boot all the way to the Windows desktop. Once there check to see if the battery is charging (or whether it is fully charged). If it is charging, allow it to fully charge before either shutting down the laptop or disconnecting the adapter.
