Lenovo Z410 wont boot with 2nd HDD in Optical Bay Caddy

Original Config – Lenevo Z410 Intel Core i5, 6gb DDR3, 1TB HDD

I have replaced the original HDD with 256gb Kingston SSD and have placed the HDD in optical drive bay using HDD caddy sourced from the local market. (similar to https://amzn.com/B0058AH2US )

When both SSD and HDD are connected, the laptop boots for 1 second and then powers off. I will not power on even if I hit the power button. Only after resetting the CMOS jumper the laptop boot again. (the same problem everytime)

The laptop works fine when only SSD or HDD is connected.

[I was once able to boot up with both drives and it worked fine but then the laptop shut down after some time]

Please let me know what the problem could be and how to fix it ?

Hi, Don't know your laptop but have you checked your BIOS settings for the drives? Is the SSD first in boot order? is the HDD being detected when both are installed?

Yes the SSD is first in the boot order. and whenever the laptop does powenon it detects HDD but it doesnt stay on for long

Hi, Can you select the 'type' of disc drive in BIOS (not quite sure on this) whether it should be IDE etc. What was the setting for the DVD drive before? Perhaps the BIOS settings either needs to be changed because you now have a HDD installed (if you didn't change it of course) or if you did change it perhaps it needs to go back to what it was.
