Why won't my device charge when it is plugged in?

I plugged my device in today to charge it and it will not charge even though the cable and outlet are fine and operating correctly.

Hi, the one of the most common problems with laptops is that the battery will slowly lose its charge. This happens because batteries lose charge every-time they are re-charged. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is to obtain a new battery and replace it.

What about when you have had the cable and battery replaced and still no charging or power? Both of my Gateways (identical laptops for the purpose of having one if the other goes to crap and having spare parts but both have the same problem)

Hi @Rhys Tal Cernunnos,

Have you tried starting the laptops with the battery removed but the charger connected?

If it starts then there is a problem with the motherboard's battery charging circuitry.

If it doesn't start at all then check the laptop's DC-In connector (Power port) as it may be faulty or disconnected from the motherboard

No battery, no power. So I will have to look into that. Thank you. (If I can find where I buried my laptop in the house. LOL)
