Hi there,

I charged my speaker, but can’t turn it on. I tried to restart it by pressing the power button, but It doesn’t work. If someone know what should I do? I also tried to update the firmware but it doesn’t allow me.

Please let me know

Hi, my speaker is out of warranty. I have the same problem as many, with the red flashing light. I have spoken to them and for them to fix it, for about £70. This will be my last resort as it’s expensive so want to know if there’s any way I can do it, can anyone help with this problem ?

The step that many of these sites miss is that when you get to the software update page you need to click in the white area and then type a d v followed by the up arrow and then the down arrow. This takes you to the advanced page that they don’t tell you about, and which allows you to re-install the firmware. Honestly, it solves the problem - or it did for me after much faffing around with other solutions.

Hi. Thanks for your info as I got to that advance screen but my speaker doesn't seem to be found by my laptop and I can only see a system information button on the advance screen? Can't get rid of the flashing red light apart from when i try to reset it then it goes a yellow colour but still the same problem afterwards.

What options did you see on the advance screen when you did it?

Thanks again.

I have been looking for a solution for months! And this easter egg function fixed the issue! The speaker works fine after reinstalling the firmware! Amazing hint!

You are a genius!!!

Ian you are a lifesaver!!!!!! I've tried to get my speaker to work for a year now and this is the only thing that worked. Hope you stay blessed <33

Gotta say, Ian, I don't know how you knew that (by deconstructing the web page??) but it certainly helped with my SL II Issue as well... Muchos grassy arse1

I actually contacted Bose on Twitter @BoseService and they asked me to send it back for repairs after the firmware update didn't work! DM'd them my name, address, phone number, e-mail, and serial number on my Soundlink Mini II. They sent me a prepaid UPS shipping label and said it should be about 3 weeks.

Hi all, I had a similar issue with my Bose Soundlink Mini II speakers and I went in to a couple different Bose stores to ask for a fix. In one of the stores, the lady said they had recently received a lot of queries for this issue with the Soundlink Mini II and suggested DOWNGRADING the software to see if that worked. I did so and to my surprise it worked and so I have not since updated it to the lastest software version. To downgrade the software, plug in the speaker to a computer/laptop and go to the software version page on the Bose website. Then, press:

ADV *up arrow* *down arrow*

all together at the same time. I downgraded mine to version 1.1.3 and it has worked ever since. Hope this works and saves you some cash!

I did that once, and it worked. Unfortunately bose seems to have removed 1.1.3 version from the update site. There is just version 1.1.4 option in the dropdown after key combination ADV UP DOWN:

PS: Pressing those keys all at once does not work, you need to press them in sequence.

I will NEVER buy another Bose product EVER again. This issue has been around for long and all they did was remove the working firmware and keep the faulty one.

Reinstalling, not downgrading, worked perfectly. Thank you.

Reinstalling fixed the issue.

I’ve found this works:

Connect the Bose speaker to your Mac/pc

Launch the Bose Updater App

Press the following keys in order:

A  D  V  UpArrow  DownArrow

then select to reinstall current firmware.

Hope that helps.

I am unable to do this because the updater on bose.com won't launch. Tried refreshing the browser and still won't open. This was my only hope to fix this speaker

This is a major issue with this product. SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth® speaker II

Red light flashes. Unit will not power up. Battery in sleep mode - (Lithium undervolt shutdown). Unable to by-pass battery and power up via mains. Unable to link with computer to do the famous firmware upgrade everyone mentions. (My firmware is up to date anyway)

I got lateral and wondered if I could use some generic lithium wake up techniques for batteries in other applications such as drills. Trouble is.... the bloody battery is hard wired onto the motherboard (???????) WTF

When was the last time you saw that? I'm not going to risk the motherboard while messing with the battery.

I've looked all over the web for DIY advice, and the closest thing to an answer has been here, above: 'send it in for service'. Doesn't that just totally fly in the face of this site?

Hi,

With regards to your last question, "Doesn't that just totally fly in the face of this site", I would say not necessarily.

Whilst this site is all about fixing it, if the device still had a valid manufacturer's warranty period left on it, then I'd say yes, return it for a warranty service before attempting to fix it yourself thus possibly voiding the warranty.

To my mind at least this will make the manufacturers more accountable for their products and also give them feedback regarding problems with their product. If enough people did this when their warranty was valid it would compel the more reputable manufacturers to lift their game and weed out the ones that don't care about service.

If the offered warranty provisions are considered poor buy another product that is better in this regard or get onto your legislators to get them to improve the rights of the consumer. e.g. why does a product (not talking about Bose in this case) have a 12 month warranty in one country and the same product only have a 90 day warranty in the USA. Makes you think doesn't it.

For many products, a red light means the battery is charging, a green light means it is fully charged and a blinking red light means there is something wrong with the battery - usually it is far below the minimum voltage for an Li battery.

Just replace the battery. It isn’t about the charging circuit on the MB. That is doing its job.
