laptop turned off while working and now is dead. Logic board problem?

So, I have a macbook pro mid 2012. Two days ago i was working and it suddently shutdown. The macbook was charging and i remember hearing a small noise one second before it died, it was like a clicking sound coming from the charging port.

After it shutdown i tried to turn it on again and nothing happened, i tried to reset the smc and it didnt work, the laptop was dead

At first i thought it was a battery problem, my battery is old and and it doesnt hold a lot charge so i bought a new battery thinking that a new battery would solve the problem but no, it didnt work.

It simply doesnt turn on, i tried to make it work with the new battery, with the old one, without battery and only the charger and nothing happens. Everytime i click the power button nothing happens, no sound, no signal, nothing.

One interesting thing is that when i connect the charger it stays green all the time, it doesnt matter if i change batteries, the magsafe indicator doesnt change and also the battery indicator shows full baterry (all leds turn on) when the charger is connected but it doesnt show any battery when the charger is disconnected.

Ive been reading a lot of info about it and it looks that the logic board might be the problem, I've cleaned the logic board and checkec all the connections and the result is the same.

So, the Macbook died 5 days ago. Today I came from school and I push the power button and it started!!! Now it's working, not signals of malfunction, it working perfectly. I'm so confused about the situation. What could have cause the situation in the first place?

I guess it needed a holiday ;-}

I would strongly recommend you get into a habit of backing things up as it could decide to take a more extended holiday next time.

Well ... Your on the right track! But It's not good ;-{

It sounds like either the power circuitry or the CPU its self have failed here. Given the fact the system won't even come on with the MagSafe plugged in means it's not the charger logic which is the more common failure.

I think your best direction here is just to replace the logic board. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement and here's one source for the part: eBay - MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Logic Boards

If it happens again, reset the SMC.

Indicators that your SMC might need to be reset

After you perform normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset could be necessary:

The computer fans run at high speed, though the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.

The keyboard backlight behaves incorrectly on Mac computers that have this feature.

The status indicator light (SIL) behaves incorrectly on Mac computers that have this feature.

Battery indicator lights, if present, behave incorrectly on Mac notebooks that have a non-removable battery.

The display backlight doesn't respond correctly to ambient light changes on Mac computers that have this feature.

The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.

A Mac notebook computer doesn't respond properly when you close or open the lid.

The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.

The battery doesn't charge properly.

The MagSafe power adapter LED doesn't indicate the correct activity.

The computer is performing unusually slowly, though it isn't experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization.

Application icons may bounce in the Dock for an extended amount of time when opened.

Applications may not function correctly, or they may stop responding after being opened.

A computer that supports target display mode does not switch into or out of target display mode as expected, or it switches into or out of target display mode at unexpected times.

The illumination around the I/O ports on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) does not activate when you move the computer.

Reset the SMC on Mac notebook computers

First determine whether the battery is removable. Mac notebook computers that have a nonremovable battery include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, MacBook (Late 2009), and MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015). Learn more about Mac notebook batteries.

If the battery is nonremovable

Shut down the Mac.

Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your Mac.

Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.

Release all keys, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac

If the battery is removable

Shut down the Mac.

Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac.

Remove the battery. (Learn about removing the battery in MacBook and MacBook Pro computers.)

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.

Press the power button to turn on the Mac.

The LED on MagSafe power adapters might change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
