How to remove partition in Mac, when Disk Utility procedure fails?

Context:

MacBook Air (mid 2012), OS X El Captain version 10.11

256GB SSD split into a 30GB partition (OS X el capitan, name is "Macintosh HD") and a 50GB partition (used to be BootCamp, name is now "B"). The 25GB partition needs to go. I have erased the 25GB to an OS X extended (Journaled) partition, but when I click on partition, I still cannot remove it (the infamous "minus greyed out", see image).

I can resize it, but Macintosh HD stays at 35GB, and a third partition is made which in turn can be removed, but the space it liberated is allocated to B again, which doesn't solve anything. Please tell me how I can solve this problem?

Do you have access to another Mac so you can use Target Mode?

Before you go in the terminal way, you must take the complete data backup of your Mac since a single wrong command line will invite new trouble and your complete Macintosh hard drive can now be unrecognized. Other way round will be using a partition manager utility by creating a bootable USB and then resizing / creating / deleting partitions. You may look at below mentioned apps partitioning your Mac:

1) Stellar Partition Manager

2) iPartiton
