hi, i have got an asus trasformer T200 with an emmc of 32Gb. new upgrade of win10 is impossible because memory is insufficient. i would like to replace this memory with a emmc of 128Gb. do you know what is the socket name? amperage? voltage? power?

in this video emmc is removed in a samsung note2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGXqoLGD...

this is possible in the T200 ?

Hi Angelo, did you manage to find a solution to this?

I have the same problem and Asus support does not seem to know how to address this.

You should also provide what CPU you have onboard. Microsoft Windows 10 fall creators 2017 does not support older atom processors.

There are a couple of options: First, you can upgrade the eMMC flash. Watch this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGZkKrWK...

As you can see from the video, you'll have to open the netbook, desolder (via heat) the chip on the mobo, and install the new chip. Whether that board/bios can support a 128gb eMMC chip is unknown to me as of yet, but a 128GB card IS available.

https://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine?Ntk...

Second, you can work with what you have and install a Linux distro instead. However, that can be problematic too.

Also, the other poster is correct. What were they thinking in designing a netbook that only has 32GB eMMC with no possibility for HDD/SSD upgrade/use and not allowing system memory to be sent to a card? Further, with Win10 as the OS, since it has constant updates, when you get this netbook you barely have 13GB to start. I doubt that this netbook would have sold nearly as well if people had known of this hardware/software issue.

Anyone who makes and sells a device with 32gb of eMMC memory should be locked up, its like selling a new car with a lawnmower engine in it!

I would like to know the name of the electrical engineer who said "Hey look what I designed"...........he needs to go back to school.

Any device sold today should have a minimum of 256gb, basically all flash drive chips are the same size, all pocket usb hard drives are the same size so I am sure that all eMMC ships are the same size so they should not sell a tablet or a mini laptop with less than 256GB!

This is rather like saying only cars with V8s should be sold because that's what you want. You can't usually upgrade a 4-cylinder car into something more powerful, but for many users the a 4-cylinder is sufficient and inexpensive. The Windows 10 upgrade can be completed by using an SD card to hold the old files. A 64GB eMMC costs more than a 32GB and a 128GB is more than a 64GB. I have two computers with eMMC drives in them. One is a Win 10 and the other a Chromebook. The 16GB in the Chromebook works great because I keep my documents on the cloud drive and only have an handful of program on it. Likewise, my 64GB eMMC on the Win 10 system works great for what I use it for. After an upgrade, I just go into setup and delete the old system files (once I know it is working well). My other, task intensive systems all have SSDs from 240GB on up.

You dont need to upgrade the drive

if you have a spare usb

connect an external drive but dont format

Win 10 has a built in Disk Management tool

the new drive must have no partition on it

if it has then you need to right click it and delete the volume first

right click on the new drive and delete volume

now right click on the system partition( in most cases the c:drive)

choose extend volume from the menu, click next on this window

click on the new drive and add

at this point you can choose to add the whole drive or part of it

if you choose only a part of it say 500Mb of a 1 Tb drive

you can format the rest into a seperate backup drive afterwards

with its own drive letter

follow the prompts and you should have

a larger system drive to handle any upgrade

this is reversable afterwards if you dont want the drive

always attached.

alternatively in the settings, system, storage area

it is posible to have all programs and apps loaded to another drive

instead of your sytem drive.

there are several areas here you can alter from

loadnig new apps, documents, music, pictures and videos

all can be set to goto another drive by default.

which in turn will keep your system drive small

especially if you only have a small 32GB eMMC system drive

Unfortunately, the emmc is soldered to the mainboard of the device, so there's no way to upgrade it.

It might be possible to get windows 10 on there, but the 32gb of storage is a serious restriction to it. There are some people that get it done, but really is only recommended for the 64gb models.

The Windows 10 upgrade has an option to use external storage to hold the old files. You can use an SD card for the purpose. Not as convenient and slower, but at least it allows you to do the upgrade.

Hi

Are you certain the device you want to upgrade has a removable eMMC storage IC? The Galaxy Note 2 has a chip that is soldered on; it cannot be easily removed and does not have a socket. If you have a lot of experience with BGA soldering you might be able to find a chip online on Aliexpress for the higher capacity model of the tablet.

Well, I'm 2 years late to the June 2016 Discussion Party here; but for others such as myself who like Angelo, the OP, are looking for similar answers on upgrading their eMMC, SATA, or HDD internal Memory Storage on their older and/or cheaper equipment; I found these 2 very informative and easily understandable articles in Laptop Magazine. Enjoy!

There are a lot of smart people answering with a lots of knowledge of their own but no one has answered the question. What is the replace spec/model for a larger capacity HD for the TP 200S?. It does not matter if its 64GB or 128 or 256. Any one of these options is better than 32. Hey guys, if you know the answer, please it’s a one sentence or two answer. I respect your views re stupid design etc but that does not answer the question. Thanks.
