Touch ID after screen replacement

I replaced the screen on my iPhone 6 with a nice iFixit part and now Touch ID will not work. When I am in Touch ID settings and turn it on (it was in the off position after the repair) I get an error screen.

I have done this repair before to the same phone with no issues. After reading many posts on this, I have quadruple checked the connections and inspected for damage. All is good. I have done hard resets, restored from iTunes, and even lit a candle for Steve Jobs... no dice.

Everything else is good though.

Any suggestions are very welcome! Thanks in advance.

Are you using the original home button? Touch id will not work if you replace the home button as each home button is keyed to each phone.

Yes, same home button too.

I have disassemble my phone once again and did a very thorough inspection of cables, connectors, boards, resistors and everything else around the Touch ID component.

I can't help but feel the software has locked out the component, as it functions normally in all other ways. My credit card info has disappeared from ApplePay as well as my fingerprint data. The Touch ID turned off when I restarted the phone. Now when I click to turn it on, I get "Failed : Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again."

I had the same experience and error message. Everything looked perfectly fine on the inside, but I think the home button extension cable must have been imperceptibly damaged. I bought the "iPhone 6 LCD Shield Plate with Sticker and Home Cable" on ifixit and when I installed it, the touch ID worked again. In the product description, ifixit notes that replacing the cable will cause the touch id sensor to stop working, so I was unsure, but it did work in the end.

If you put back the original Touch ID then you could have damaged:

The home button flex cable itself, or it's connector.

The home button interconnect cable that runs on the back of the plate.

Or a board component: the board connector or a filter or resistor on the Touch ID circuit.

Start examining all the above using good magnification. You ought to find it.

Thank you. I felt like I gave it a thorough inspection, but I did not see anything out of the ordinary. Though your suggestions do seem likely. I may have to replace the home button... Or get used to no Touch ID. It's curious that the button works fine in every other way. Thank you.

Only the original home button flex cable will allow you to use Touch ID. And only Apple can replace it and pair it with your iPhone. Which they do when replacing your screen assembly.
