ceiling fan not working , light works by pull chain!

jec32, you'll have to open it up and take a look at the wiring and check the capacitor. Your fan's symptom could be a failed capacitor. Disconnect the power source from the fan (turn it off) and remove the light kit. You should have a cover that will "hide" the wiring etc. Remove that and check your components with a multimeter.
