Will replacing the Airport Extreme Card fix this error?

One day the networking on my 12" PowerBook quit working.

Now when I open the Network Configuration, I get an infinite number of alerts saying:

"Your network settings have been changed by another application."

I tried re-seating the Airport Extreme card, but that did not remedy the situation.

Is this error symptomatic of a fried Airport Extreme card? I see that y'all have them on sale, but I'm concerned that the fault lies elsewhere.

Google turned up the answer!

It was a bug in a security update.

Apparently I took the update, broke networking, and never associated the problem with the update.

I found two fixes: The one I didn't try but might be less intrusive: http://www.appleinkmagazine.com/?cat=6

And the one I did try that blew away my network settings, but which solved the problem: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/...

I doubt it's a hardware issue. It sounds like your network settings have been altered. Have you recently installed VPN software, or software from your ISP, or any other software that may have made changes to your network settings? Is there a small VPN icon in the upper-right of your screen, next to the wireless icon? If you click on the wireless icon in the upper-right, do you see wireless networks? If you do, your card is fine, and the problem is a software issue.

I'd go into your network settings, and look at the TCP/IP settings for your Airport, and verify that DHCP is turned on, and that it's not set to a fixed IP address. You can also release/renew the IP.

Also, I Googled it and found this post, which discusses a variety of programs/configurations which can cause this message to occur:
