no backlight , two screens and no light

UPDATE: Will be opening back up tomorrow to look on the other side of the board... will be taken completely out and tested on appropriate components.... Have been watching that a common problem is a blown WLED CHIP or simply a piece of content has fallen off hence why no backlight... these are my bests guesses as of now we've confirmed the sockets are fine, fuse is good so I'm focusing my attention on the WLED

Hello, Im looking for some help. Im having backlight issues on my mac air 2013 A1466 13' I noticed that the screen had a pink tint and started flickering for about 3 days before total failure. Could be a coincidence but I spent 1 month in the carribean where the humidity was very high and I did not have air conditioning. As soon as I came back to Canada this is when the pink light started as well as delayed light such as when opening lid.

I thought it was the backlight itself as it had the symptoms from what I read finally bought a new screen attached very carefully and was anticipating the screen to light up except nothing happened ... same thing looking through it with a flash light and using ext. monitor to get my work done.

From what I have read this now looks like a fuse issue can someone please help me figure out whats going on would really LOVE to get my macbook air back again. Any questions you may have... shoot ill reply asap, thank you in advance

@travjav this is just to identify your fuse. Check it for continuity. It is a 32V 3A fuse in a 603 package. you can also check the voltage on the fuse. Positive probe from a multimeter on the fuse and negative on ground. Let us know what you find. I am wondering if the pink screen did not originate from the LED driver vs the LCD panel. Just a thought....

Also, this would not be causing damage(if already) to my new screen I have on? should I revert back to the old screen?

unless I'm doing something wrong.. for continuity I'm getting my alarm going off going from 1.3 and climbing down 1.0, 0.8 etc.

it would help to see close-up picts of the logic board LVDS socket without cable attached and of the connector of the LVDS cable from the original screen to verify is something is damaged.

@lemerise Requested photos are up thanks lemerise

LVDS socket and connector seems to be OK. Problem is elsewhere on the circuit.

Hi,

6R6 is damaged, blink=power fail or not filtered, your mainboard looks like been exposed to rusty, in my opinion , just try to change battery, and clean the connectors, also keep an eye on the INVERTER of the Lcd.

Good luck.

Luis,

Would you need more photos for a final conclusion? I can take high res photos for you... just tell me the section etc. About the rust, electronics in the Caribbean because of the salt and high humidity etc. do have a habit of rusting so this is a good guesstimate... Can you explain where 6R6 is so I can check it out with my scope? I don't believe this particular model has a inverter as it would be located the bottom of the screen in that area which is accessible through the bezel (hence my ugly screen 1 with no bezel)

@luisdk where is the "INVERTER of the Lcd" on this model? Mark it on the images posted by trav. If Luis is referring to the 6R8 inductor just adjacent on the left top side to your IC under the EMI shield (2nd image), that is a 6.8UH inductor which is part of the 15V boost regulator circuit

Alright I see it there, thanks. Any other tips for diagnosing the true source of the problem? as well @oldturkey03 what do you think about the test with the multimeter about the continuity ? Would like to try and attempt to fix this or atleast save someone else some time so I don't have a big repair bill, I appreciate everyones input. Any more questions please feel free to ask

sounds like your fuse is ok. With the fuse it's not about values just a simple go-no go situation. In your case sounds like its a go. I'll check to see if I can come up with a schematic for your computer to see if there is anything else we can have you check.

@oldturkey03 I appreciate your effort and time, thank you.
