Is my hardrive bad
My Xbox one 500gb is complete crap, I bought it off craigslist and not knowing it was not going to work I paid 200, yeah yeah it was very stupid of me. I contacted the police but it's difficult. Anyway the Xbox one hardrive is bad, when i turn it on it has the black screen of death now I already tried all the trouble shooting exactly it just gets stuck at the same part and gives me a error code of e101. I sent it to Microsoft because they extended the warranty for another month but the warranty sticker was removed so they sent it back. So my question is if I buy this 500gb hardrive and replace it will it work normally or should I spend 150 for a replacement console
Did you review the existing iFixit post below. It lists a solution, but the link within the comment on that post also provide information as well.
How to fix E101 error?

Daniel, one of the problems is the software your expecting to 'be there' with any hard drive purchase. I've not reviewed the hard drive your asking about or if its pre-loaded with the operating system required for the XBox One. (Still very new to ifixit).

I have read reviews about the hardrive and people said they just plugged in the hardrive and it worked. You can either get a 1tb or 500gb hhd it does have the operating system it is used

I reviewed both the Xbox One Hard Drive Replacement and the respective order page for the Hard Drive. The user frugsqrl, stated that the 1TB drive she bought had the software she needed on it. You can always confirm this for the 500GB drive as well before purchasing. The comments from the guide state that various methods others used to format the drive with the software.
I recommend purchasing the drive. If the software is preinstalled, then the system should power on normally. Since you have the ability to format and add files to the drive, if you need to install the software, then it will not be an issue.
