Partial Resurrection from Error 53
15 months ago I dunked my iPhone briefly in clean water. After drying out (no special technique except time), the phone woke up. Thinking back I'm pretty sure I was having home button issues since the phone would exit open apps to the home screen. I tried to update to whichever new iOS version there was at that time and of course got Error 53. Talked with Apple Store: of course no repair available because of water damage. Long story short, every few months I would try to restore the phone (still recognized in iTunes) with eventual Error 53. Tried again yesterday, and after 2 tries it restored the phone, firmware and installed iOS 9.2.1. Everything worked fine for ~2 hours, then the home button stopped working intermittently, then pretty much totally. All the rest worked: screen, touch, power & volume buttons, charging, Wifi. Didn't ever attempt to use Touch ID. Switched to AssistiveTouch for soft home screen. Works fine until either it times out to lock screen or I turn it off, then the screen powers on every 10 seconds or so. My question is will the phone work if I just disconnect the home button? I don't need it as a phone any longer; just want to use it at home for web/remote control use.
