Why can't I get a display from my cpu to my monitor
i am getting power in my cpu but no display on my monitor . i have new hdmi cables and a working monitor
A personal computer that resides in one location with its core components inside a case separate to third-party peripherals required for operation, such as a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
It could be a problem with static discharge , if so do the following.
1. Disconnect the power cord
2. Remove the battery
3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds , then release for 30 sec and then hold down for another 30sec
4. Plug in power ,replace battery and power on laptop.
If this causes no Joy try this.
Remove memory and reinstall one stick at a time, if there are more than 1 dimm of ram, try each stick in each slot one at a time to see if the memory is ok and to determine if one of the memory slots is bad.

Try the silly stuff first.
1. Try the input button on the monitor.
2. Check that you're using the right HDMI output. If you have a graphics card your PC may have more than one HDMI output. One on the motherboard, and one (usually lower) on the graphics card. The graphics card will be the correct choice if there are two.
3. Is your power button or reset button stuck, miswired, shorted? Fiddle with the buttons and check their connection to the motherboard. You can also try unplugging the power button connection at the motherboard, and bridging the pins with a screwdriver.
4. Try another type of cable, like a VGA or dvi
If that doesn't work try this.
1. Turn on the computer
2. Inspect the computer for signs of it booting into windows. Look/listen for:
--A POST success beep. A single beep a few seconds after powering on. Most PCs nowadays don't have this, but if yours normally beeps then it's worth checking for.
--The hard drive light flashing like its loading windows. You may also hear the hard drive reading data.
--A welcome chime as the windows loads
If none are present then its likely failing POST, or Pre Operating System Self Test. Check and wiggle the power connectors from the power supply. Make sure the processor heatsink is snug. Also make sure the RAM is pushed all the way in. If it fails, move to diagnostic. These tests can be performed in any order, its just how I thought of them.
1. Try motherboard graphics if available. Test. If fails move back to graphics card if available. If you only have motherboard graphics, skip this test.
2. Try using 1 RAM stick at a time. Test. If it fails try another ram stick. Test. Try other slots. Test.
3. Unplug the hard drive. Test.
4. Remove the graphics card if available. Use motherboard graphics to test. If your PC only has motherboard graphics, skip this step.
5. Reset the CMOS. Remove the CMOS battery for at least one minute. Some take longer to reset. Hold the power button to help drain the motherboard. Replace the battery. Test.
6. If you have a power supply tester available use it. Alternatively try a different power supply.
If all above fails, its likely the motherboard or processor. In my experience its the motherboard 99% of the time instead of the processor. That is unless a heat issue is visible.
