I have the same problem as this one..The sound works intermittently.. I went to preferences/sound and it would not let me highlight anything in the output or input section and it displays "no output/input device found". The sound was working fine.. then it does not. I do not change anything, I am not that clever. Could it be the cord between the computer and the monitor?

If you have the same issue as that one, then you either need a new logic board or can use USB-equipped speakers to bypass the issues. The USB speakers would probably be the cheaper alternative. You can start looking for USB speakers that are compatible with a mac (double check!) HERE.
