Why is my LC cartridge repeatedly failing?

I replaced several genuine Epson ink cartridges early November (2015) when they ran low with more genuine Epson ink cartridges. Unfortunately, the printer would not accept the light cyan, and produced the error "cannot recognize the following cartridges. Try installing them again: LC 98/99". I contacted Epson who verified and re-verified that I used their genuine Epson ink cartridge, and then sent me a replacement cartridge. The replacement from Epson worked until 2 days ago, when it produced the original error of not being able to recognize the light cyan cartridge. I contacted Epson again by email, and they responded that the sensor for that particular cartridge may be malfunctioning, but there is no local service center.

Can anyone instruct me how to fix an ink sensor?
