Can I restore the video feed on my 360?

At first I would be using my 360 and after about five minutes the screen would take a green hue and become slightly scrambled. Then this started happening when I turned it on and eventually the visual cut out all together. Now when I turn it on I can hear the audio but nothing comes onto the screen. I've tried new A.V cords and using HD cables on an HD tv but I've had no luck, so I figure the problem is in the xbox 360 itself. There are no rings, it still runs the games, I just can't see them. Any tips?

This is a bad solder joint under either the HANA chip or the GPU itself. Essentially the same as RROD except because it's not showing the RROD Microsoft wont repair it for free... The xbox need's a professional reflow.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try the towel trick or penny fix. BOTH will make your xbox a very expensive doorstop.

There is the RARE occasion that this is a bad solder joint under the connector where you plug in the av cables.

Either way the xbox needs to be Reflowed. A great resource for this is Xbox-experts.com.

Good luck!

While I do not recommend either the towel or penny trick, I have to disagree with you - trying them will not necessarily make your Xbox a doorstep. I haven't performed either of the tricks myself, but I have read some accounts of people who performed them successfully for a cheap repair to their system. It just isn't the most recommended way to attempt fixing your system. For my own repairs I'd much rather use a soldering iron or a repair kit, since I've soldered a few things in the past, and I trust iFixit's products. :)

I'd Have to agree with Taylor, I have fixed about 20 360's and I always use the "Towel Fix" just to see whether the problem is with the X-Clamps or not, before i even open the console. If the "Towel Fix" works, then I replace the X-Clamps and "Bake" it

Very reliable source for why not to try the "Baking Trick" or the "Penny fix".

You CAN NOT in any way shape of form repair this with a soldering iron. These errors are caused by bad or bridged solder joints in the BGA(Ball Grid Array) under the affected processor. It is physically impossible to repair this with a soldering iron. You need to use one of the following. 1.Oven 2.Reflow Station 3.Heatgun.

Please do your research befor eyou attempt to repair any electronics. Don't just go on youtube and try the first video that pops up.

Remember the VAST majority of the population of this planet is nearly retarded. Popular is probably not a good thing...Chris Green, People like you are the reason my xbox repair business does so well.

If you want to know more about the ACTUAL source of the xbox 360 errors read this article.

This will be my last comment or post on this site. You people are helpless with people like this offering help. ALWAYS do your own research. Read multiple solutions and sources before you make your "informed" decision on what to do.

I'd assume the TV works/displays fine on it's own (i.e. can watch cable, etc.)? Just curious as you mentioned the green hue and that'd sound like more of an issue with light engine in the TV itself. Does seem odd that you're not getting any rings though. If the video chip had died, would think you'd get the RROD and from experience I know you'll get a couple lights if you don't have anything hooked up to the video-out so that would probably rule out it being a connector issue.

I've been getting this same exact problem! It'd be great if I could fix my 360 instead of having to buy a new one or something. I hope someone can help answer this too

I've seen this happen before, and it required the xbox be repaired by MS. Halo 2/3 looks really weird in just green. I'm assuming this is one of the older revisions, right? Several years old and no built-in hdmi unless it's an elite? I think you might need a new motherboard sadly. Call around to MS and a local game shop that does repairs to see who has a better price.
