Click wheel not responding after logic board change

Hi all,

On my iPod classic 160 GB only the play/pause button did not work any more. The rest of the buttons worked fine. There was no longer a nice and snappy 'click' on the play/pause button.

I ordered a new logic board and installed that. All buttons now have a nice satisfying 'click' however, the iPod does not respond AT ALL to the click wheel, no buttons, no swipes, nothing (obviously the HOLD switch is off - no orange to be seen).

Curious is though, that the iPod 'comes alive' (the screen goes bright), then dims after about 8 seconds. About two minutes later, the screen becomes bright again, then 8 seconds later dims, etc.

If I connect the iPod to the computer, it says the battery is fully charged, and the iPod docks like normal to the PC, I can play music, see the file structure, etc.

I checked and double checked all cables and connections, they all seem fine to me and inserted and connected well.

What could be the problem? Is the new logic board compatible with the (old) click wheel?

Storm, you did get a Classic logicboard and not a 5th gen Video which is often erroneously referred to as Classic as well. The click wheel is compatible only if you have the right board. If you do, then I would suggest to replace that next. If it possible that it got damaged while replacing the board. "then dims after about 8 seconds. About two minutes later, the screen becomes bright again, then 8 seconds later dims, etc." this is unrelated to the click wheel but related to the logic board. Sure sounds like you have some issues with that. If a new click wheel does not accomplish anything, replace the board.

Thanks.

I made very sure that I ordered the logic board with EXACTLY the same partnumber as the original.

Strange why that would not work.

The click wheel seems in perfect condition (though not working).

I think I go back to the logic board vendor first, if that solves nothing, then click wheel next.

Greetings,

Storm

Here is another thought: the click wheel buttons are just plastic go-betweens between the click wheel and the logic board. The buttons are actually on the logic board itself.

So... if the buttons are not working this must be an issue with the logic board, not with the clickwheel me thinks?

That is correct in regards to the buttons.
