Will not turn on, charge or do any kind of reset

My wife has this tablet and has on a couple of occasions had similar problems that i have been able to sort doing a hard reset. I cannot now get it to do anything other than show the battery charge on which the circle is not turning and then the battery with about 20% charge showing. It does nothing when not plugged in or connected to a laptop.

Have researched as much as i can but not yet found an answer that works. The hard reset, volume and power button, unplugged, plugged in and connected to a laptop, but cannot get it to do anything other than show the 2 screens when plugged in and nothing at all when not.

Anybody offer help or is it buy a new one, it has been very laggy and is around 4 years old.

Sounds like a dead battery, but older samsung tablets are also notorious for having charge issue's when drained below 10%.

You can try and leave the battery to drain for 2 weeks or more and hope the charge circuit resets.

I also found this posted on ifixit by Droidman:

This problem has been recognized by Samsung, it's a factory thing, all You need to do, open your tab, remove the battery cable for about 10 mins and plug it back again, unplug the screen from the motherboard, and charge it for about, two hours, then plug back the screen connector, and turn it on, if you see it works, turn off the tablet again, and plug in the power cord again, you'll see the charging animation starts, leave it charging for the time you think it's necessary to reach 100%, unplug the cable and turn it on, your tablet is alive, the only problem I've found about this, is that you'll need to turn the tablet completely off whenever you want to charge it, and finally this, VERY IMPORTANT! When your tablet is below 15 or 10% battery, charge it, because if you let the battery die, probably you'll have to do all the steps again.
