Refrigerator not cooling after fix

Hi!

So, my frigidaire refrigerator stopped working earlier in the week. It's a Gallery with the fridge up top and the freezer below. I did a bunch of troubleshooting and found that the evaporator fan behind the back panel in the freezer was not running. I ordered a new one and installed it last night. Right away, I could hear it running and feel it getting cool. This morning the freezer was a proper 0 degrees, but the fridge was not cooling. I quickly disassembled everything I could in the fridge to see if there was a fan that was not moving cold air up there, but didn't find one. There are 3 vents in the bottom which I imagine are the main cooling vents, as I don't see anywhere else air could come from. I thought I would feel air flowing out of them, but I don't (the center one a tiny bit, but not even enough to cool a lunch box). I have no clue what it could be at this point... Hopefully can get the family out of the cooler in the garage and back into the fridge soon. Thanks for any and all help!!

Hi,

Really stupid question. The evaporator fan was not mounted the wrong way or reversed rotation direction (sucking down instead of blowing up)? This link (I know not your make or model) shows evaporator fan sucking air across the evaporator coil and then UP into the refrigerator.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks Jayeff. I was thinking the same thing.. It's a Frigidaire Gallery over / under french door style fridge. The fan can't be mounted the wrong way without having the motor in the actual freezer, but it totally feels like it's mounted the wrong way. Basically, I replaced the fan, the freezer is now operating just fine, but the fridge barely gets any air. I have verified that the damper door that connects the two is open and operating correctly, but there just is virtually no draft coming up from the freezer... The vent that goes to the fridge is just out in the open (see picture), so I have no idea how it gets any air pressure to force cold air up to the fridge. The pathway is clear, the fan works, the freezer works and the damper door is open... just won't cool. There's something that I'm missing for sure, but I have no idea what it is... Pic below:

EDIT

OH WOW!!! I just looked at my own picture - noticed the faint line around the fan where SOMETHING use to be. Found the piece... must be it!

Hi,

Hopefully you've got it sorted.

I'm having the same problem with my Kenmore model 596.9535610. Have installed (replaced) 2 evap. fan motors . The compressor comes on and starts cooling the coils but the fan isn't turning. Going on 3 wks now.....

Hi beadypea,

Why did you replace 2 evap fans? Was one faulty then?

1. The fan will not operate with the door open. Have you proved that it does turn (either by hearing it operate or marking the blades) when the door is closed. Just checking. ;-)

2. Can you use a DMM (Digital Multimeter - Voltmeter function)to see if there is power being supplied to the fan at the control board?
