My screen stays black.

I was listening to music and my phone suddenly just went black and i cant do anything to get it back on. If i get a call or my alarm goes off the screen will work again until the timeout and then it wont come on again until another call. Ive tried factory re set and this did nothing to fix it and it also wiped my sim card of all contacts. What could be the problem?
