My niece dropped her iPhone 6 plus and smashed the screen,

Apple shop price to fix was quite expensive apparently

I'm considering doing it myself but have a few questions

Apple told my niece that not just the screen needs replacing but the intire casing/shell does aswell.

I think they was referring to the tiny dent in the top left corner , that little thing isnt going to prevent me from taking off the current screen and replacing it is it??? I certainly don't want to do anymore work than that so I thought I would ask here first before ordering the parts I need.

I also read messing up the home button can permantly lose the Touch ID function, that's only thing which scares me about fixing the phone myself

Anybody with experience - is this an easy 5 minute task or not ???

I'm hoping I don't need to transfer anything else like the earpiece or front camera etc like on the 5c ???

I've successfully replaced the screen on my iPhone 4s in the past and to do that I had to disassemble the whole thing

So hopefully I'm capable

I just need reassurance that I can fix the screen with that little dent problem - before ordering the parts I need

Apple doesn't ever replace a screen on an iphone that has a dent in the frame. The dent must be straightened (don't replace the frame over that) for the new screen to fit. Even if you get a new display to "fit" with the dent it'll put pressure on the screen and make it more likely to break again. There are tools specifically for straightening iphone corners but the cost would exceed the cost of just having an independent shop repair the phone. Some people bang them out with a mallet and screwdriver or other tools but I wouldn't suggest doing that to a person that hasn't done it before.

As for time required, it takes someone that has done several of them about 15 minutes to do the screen replacement and straighten that dent. I'd set aside an hour or so for yourself though.

Parts can be purchased through ifixit, they generally have the highest quality parts in the "1 at a time sales" market. ebay and amazon parts are notoriously GARBAGE. Don't waste your time or money, and no ifixit doesn't pay me anything to say that. they actually don't pay me at all.

I would say with a dent like that no it's a not an easy screen replacement but if you carved it out with a razor blade it just might be ok?idk tbh.

Also the 6 Touch ID is linked to the motherboard so if you brake it,you will never have Touch ID.touch id connector is easy to remove its the receiver that's the hard part it has adhesive so use heat and a small blade...and watch a video!
