Stuck on "3" start up screen

My phone had what appears to be a melt down yesterday when is starting saying "Google play store can't be update" lots of messages on screen like this - unfortunately I wasn't paying attention and now my phone will turn on go past the "s4 mini screen" but sticks on the "3 logo screen" - when on screen will not respond at all to anything.

Have tried reboot and "delete cache" work around anything else I can try before I have to factory reset and lose everything?
