Why will my cd's and DVD's not play?
I put either a DVD or a CD in and it spins a bit then after 30 seconds it ejects.

Often times the drive is dirty. Try using a DC/DVD cleaning disk and if you're careful a short blast of can'ed air though the slot (make sure you don't squirt the liquid) might work.
If this still fails you may need a new drive.
