I recently purchased an Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 (5.5). Through and unfortunate incident the phone screen broke. The phone screen was unresponsive which lead me to believe that the Digitzer was shot. I'm fairly New to DIY phone projects so I was wondering How would I go about repairing this specific model. Would I need a new front panel Or is it just the Digitizer? Alcatel support is Useless.

I tried to replace digitiser,it is glued and you do snap the complete screen. Also seems impossible to remove back without tearing the GPS sensor as glued to plastic back with no play in ribbon cable.
Alcatel do not want you to repair this phone..as need to remove complete motherboard to get screen connector.
10 out 10 for cheap feature rich phone.
0 out of 10 for servicing !!!!!

so it is not possible to just replace cracked screen and digitizer you have to replace everything includinf the lcd display?
Yes, It comes as a whole assembly, I have included a link to an example... I was wrong about the assembly only being $40.00 (my bad)

For anyone planning on replacing only the digitizer, this is completely useless. The digitizer is glued to the LCD and the video stops short of showing how to separate both, Anyone planning just changing the digitizer, save yourself the trouble (and money), can't be done without breaking the very fragile LCD display.
You are referring to a glass only repair, the video just shows the replacement of the whole display assembly. Modern smartphones no longer use separate digitizers. The digitizer is integrated into the LCD and a glass lens is glued to it. I do agree that buying a whole assembly saves from having problems, especially if it's not a flagship phone and the display assembly only costs $40.00.
I don't know why people keep saying "fused" or "integrated". They're glued together. They didn't get built as one piece. They come apart. It's just difficult to successfully separate them

Tried to remove the touch screen by using an heating pad, It is useless display is too fragile.
My conclusion is that Alcatel is even worst than Apple, I am so upset.

The easiest way to replace it is to check youtube for a video on how to disassemble your phone/replace the screen and decide if that is something you feel you can do or if you feel better taking it to a professional. Next if you choose to do it yourself you are going to find out what you phone is exactly i.e. an alcatel onetouch idol 3 model number 6045O. Next check places like amazon or eBay or something similar for "replacement screen for idol 3 6045O" (replacing the example phone with your own a). Find a screen that has a digitizer and lcd already attached together and ready for you to put it on your phone. Purchasing them together is a little pricier but I have never been able to successfully separate a lcd from it's digitizer no matter if it was broken or not so for those of us who are not professionals, getting them already together saves you from a lot of anger and money loss. Get any additional tools that the youtube video may have had that you need. Lastly order the item triple checking that it will work with your phones model number, and slowly follow word for word the youtube video while you replace the item. You do it all at your own risk though so make sure you have a back up plan for a phone if it goes pear-shaped!

I have recently done this and i tell you it is not for the faint of heart. here are a few tips from me: 1. Keep an eye on your power button and your volume button because they seem to disappear once out of the phone. 2. i tried heat tape/glue like i have used on an xperia phone and no dice! I ordered some b-7000 glue that seems to work ok, but it doesn't look perfect or even nice in some parts. 3. the new screen doesn't fit exactly right and i don't know if it was the poor planning of the phone or my replacement piece. 4. it works. Good Luck everyone.

Where are you located? I can fix it for you. I'd be happy to have it shipped to me if that was your prerogative. However, there is likely a repair tech in your area. But not all are equal, unfortunately, it seems in its nature for there to be slimy, money hungry techs that love to square you over a barrel, because they believe they can.
I'll charge a fair price and I'll explain to you as much of the process and try to involve you as much as you want. That's another thing I hate about techs...they treat you like you're a fool that doesn't have the capacity to even understand what they're doing. That's not just a mobile tech thing...that seems to be an IT thing. I get my ego from many sources, and my ability to understand and work on electronics is far down the list. At least I like to think...
So anyway, long-winded answer to your question. Sorry, didn't see my soapbox there next to the mic when I started talking, but once I noticed it, just couldn't resist stepping up on it and unleashing!

But be aware that as usual when you change a screen, your device will be functionnal but more fragile than before.

I dropped and broke my acatel one touch a day after I bought it. I want to buy my own screen online because it's obviously cheaper. What exactly do I need to buy ?
