Home Button Not Working

I'm having a problem with the home button on a 32gb iPod Touch 5. When the home button is pressed, nothing happens. However, if I pull the screen up and press the home button flex cable dome, it responds normally. I've tried replacing the plastic home button and rubber gasket, first transferring the original metal contact disc, cleaning the metal contact disc and home button dome with denatured alcohol and I made sure that the LCD assembly is seated back into the frame properly, etc., but nothing is working. What could be wrong? Can someone out there help me figure this out?

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue. It almost seems like there needs to be a piece protruding from the (interior) home button that contacts the metal plate on the (exterior) home button.

Hmmm, any insight on this, my iPod seem to be the same, the internal button work if i use a point to poke it but it does not when i press from the home button itself...seem like a small piece is missing between the home button and the switch's middle.

I had this same problem. There's a small black dot (very small, very easy to lose) that sticks up on the home button, and is what pushes down the button on the flex cable. I cut a small piece of VERY thin plastic and super-glued it to the top of the flex cable button, and it works like a champ. Like William said, though, you can use the assistive touch under settings/general/accessibility to turn on a virtual home button and place it wherever you want it on your screen.
