Noise in the front of car.

My husband has a 2010 Ford Focus that is making a noise that sounds like metal rubbing together. The sound is does not seem to be on either side. He says it is in the middle of the front end. We just had the front rotters and the pads replaced. We were advised it needed a front end alignment but he has not had that done yet. Can someone please advise what we need to do? An acquaintance said it could be the electronic transmission solenoid. How can we tell if this is correct?

Thank You

Fact is with a rubbing sound its either the motor or the wheels. I'm guessing it's when driving? A transmission solenoid is as likely as a pop caught between tire and car. The answer is always in the direction of recent activity. I'd bet the farm the problem is one of these 3 things. Either the brake caliper isn't fully releasing when brakes are released, the metal shield on back side of rotor to protect it from rocks and elements got bent a bit towards the new rotor and is rubbing or the work was done incorrectly and something was done wrong and that could be a lot of things but also least likely as they've darn near idiot proofed this process. Here are some test drive car with one side at a time close to something slowly like parked cars on street, garages in alleys, concrete road deciders etc and have Windows down sounds off and you'll hear real quick what side its coming from. I'd then go under front of car with that wheel turned out in the front and look for that half round protector shield behind the rotor. It's round like the rotor and should be the first thing seen from ground to tire then rim and the it. Your rim usually barley fits around it so with that discretion you should see it or Google it as rotor shield behind rotor or you tube. It's either bent into turning rotor making noise or a rock can get between the two and make this noise. The metal isn't that thick and if NOT HOT reach in grab it pull it back away from rotor.. The caliper is what squeezes the two brake pads pinching the rotor between them. If not it's sliding components are not looked at and problems addressed when doing breaks what happens is the push pads when pedal is punched but once u let off they don't quite relax away from rotor leaving break pads in contact with rotor just enough to hear and not feel. This will cause obvious premature break pad wear. A test is once in a position to hear the sound does it change with break application. U didn't say if constant or only when on breaks. If constant most like shield contact if only when braking look at possible mistakes make by installer. And there's also the chance its been there all along and past bad breaks hid the sound or your just more alert now. Like I said look into recent changes for answers to recent problems. Shift sensors are silent so I'm thinking no. I'll gladly stay tuned for your next update as I've covered a lot of ground in this reply and your answers or new questions will lead us to an answer. Hope this helps and do the suggested steps in return for time took to write them. Buy days end we can make this problem a thing.of the past. Good luck.. remember after a 2 block stroll in a car.The break components heat up a lot. Be cautious.
