loud speaker not working after lcd/battery replacement

I replaced the LCD and Battery on an iPod Touch 4. During the repair, the bracket on the dock connector closest to the loudspeaker broke off. The loudspeaker is not working. Could that missing bracket be causing the issue? Is there any grounding there that is necessary for the loudspeaker?
