The fan will run at full speed when I use the Skype program. The Macbook is a mid 2006 model with a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, and 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The hard drive is getting full; only 14.6 GB left. I'm using a wireless internet connection. I'm wondering what I can do, or what needs to be added on to help the machine not heat up so fast when I use Skype.

I would recommend a great utility called iStat Menus. Version 2 is free. Version 3 costs. When you install this it gives you all sorts of info along the top of the screen but the one you are interested in is the temperature of your CPU. Sounds like you may be running hot. You can also add the fan RPM (revolutions per minute) to the display and this will tell you how fast your fans are spinning for a given temperature.
Sounds like you want to blow out the dust from the heatsink (as already stated) and, if you are comfortable, remove the heatsink and reapply with new thermal interface material (TIM).

Sounds like it's heating up with a processor intensive program. At four years old it may need to be opened and the fans blown out with canned air. Please give us the model number on the bottom, it will be a A-xxx number, and we can direct you to the correct manual for opening.
