MacBook is crazy slow after replacing optical drive. Somebody help me!

A couple of weeks ago I decided to finally replace my old HDD for a SDD and it was great. Computer was like new, a dream. A couple of nights ago, however, I decided to also replace the optical drive for my old HDD and it may have been one of the greatest mistakes I ever made. In the process I screwed up the camera cable (which is fine, since I almost don't use it). The problem is that once I turned on the computer, everything got extremely slow, sluggish, laggy. I got so desperate that I decided to put back the optical drive, but that did not work as well. Computer is still very slow, although I'm only using the SDD. I have already reseted PRAM and SMC, formatted the SDD. So far nothing has worked. The only thing that gives me a little hope is the fact that the computer is still very fast when I enter into the safe boot mode, so I'm hoping it is not a hardware issue.

I already gave up on the idea of having the HDD as a second drive in my macbook. I just want things to be fast again with my new SDD. Please, somebody help a desperate man! Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi John, I was trying to take off the cable, as shown in the ifixit guide, but, literally, only the cable came out, the connector stayed connected. Do you think that might be the problem?

I did the exact same thing as this guy: How can I fix broken camera cable

さんによる

No but get the connector out . Do this for me boot the mac and hold the shift key tell me if it operates correct.

John, I will be eternally grateful. This thing is back to life! I had a hard time taking the connector out, it was like it was glued in there, but now that I did, everything is working again. I'm even considering plugging in the second HD again, since the problem seems to have been related to that little freakin connector. Do you think it is going to be ok? I don't want to go through this nightmare again. Ok, perhaps I should just leave as it is and enjoy my 250 gb of my fast SDD. Thanks again, man, you saved my life.

Pull out the broke off camera cable connector , the cable is causing your motherboard to stop short then press power.
