My macbook would not start up. I had not used it in a while and when I plugged it in. I saw that the battery was charging, but nothing else on screen or noise(like fan or hard dive).

Press the battery check button on the side and tell us your results. Leave it plugged in until the magsafe light turns green. Next press and hold the power button down for 5 seconds with the adapter disconnected. Try zapping the PRAM, command- option P & R keys. Please give the last four figures of your serial number located on the back.

The jump pads on the 2011 13 are up at the top left of the SMC 2 square ones ground one side of paper clip to a screw hole and the other to the pad. If its its a different model the pads are by the smc chips measure one black probe to ground and red probe to pad your looking for 3.4v that is your hot pad smc-on/off. If you got no 3.4v its time dig out schematic and hunt why you have no g3hot board won't even begin to boot without that.

The macbook booted up once power cord was atached but will not boot up when power button is pressed

so when you plug in the charger it turns on you let run to the os, update the time then power off .It should just power on , it does'nt do that?
