Why won't my MacBook Pro power on?

So I recently acquired a MacBook Pro from a friend who said that it had been water damaged, and I've been troubleshooting it for a while with no luck. I've cleaned the board of visible corrosion (There was a lot) and tried a lot of the online solutions but I've yet to find a solution. It won't power on, there is no lights whatsoever even from the charger, and I've tried different chargers without success as well. I'm not sure where to go from here besides buying a new logic board, as I fear the current one has been shorted out. Any suggestions?

I disagree, that guy is an @%^ and will charge more than the board is worth! $325 to fix a $250 board would be a bad idea. This will only be worth it if DIY is possible.

If you want to replace the board, jump on eBay and type 820-2879.

If you want to fix the board, first thing's first is to get a schematic and boardview for this board! This is an 820-2879, you will search by that number. A boardview will allow you to check for voltage at test points I will be giving you. For example, if I say check for voltage on F7040, you need to know where F7040 is. In boardview software, you hit the C key, you type in f7040, and it shows you where that is. A schematic is a diagram of the circuitry and tells you what the components are, the boardview shows you where they go

Before buying a new board or attempting board repair, let's make sure it isn't just the keyboard. try shorting SMC_ONOFF_L to ground to see if it turns on. This is what the keyboard power button does! You will find the SMC_ONOFF_L pad right next to the trackpad. This is a good picture of where these are, short them with tweezers or a flathead screwdriver. Does it turn on? UNPLUG EVERY COMPONENT BUT DC IN BOARD AND FAN BEFORE YOU DO THIS!!!! http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Mac...

Take a picture of it and point to where the corrosion was. I know you cleaned it, but you remember where it was, and if you show me where it was I can tell you what to do.

Of course, you can measure for PPBUS_G3H, PP3V42_G3H, PP5V_S5, PP5V_S3, PP3V3_S5, PP3V3_S3 with the charger plugged in and the battery not plugged in. In boardview software, hit the N key, type in any of those, and measure for voltage; it will show you everyplace that that voltage is supposed to show up on the board. Measure at any one of them for PPBUS_G3H, PP3V42_G3H, PP5V_S5, PP5V_S3, PP3V3_S5, PP3V3_S3. Black probe on screwhole, red probe on section of the board where they are supposed to show up.

Also let me guess and say there was corrosion by the LCD cable.

I'd like to upload some pictures, but I'm not sure how. Your post was very helpful indeed, but it gave some information that I can't understand XD I will find a way to get the pictures on, and label where the corrosion was. I'm looking into shorting the circuit now. I'm not sure if it will work still, given that the charging light won't even come on from the charger... I'll try it still

Louis may be a New York @%^, I agree, but he knows his stuff.

Ok so the light won't come on from the charger. If you can't answer my earlier questions all I can do is guess with no information, which sucks. Try and see if this is your problem. Do you have 3.42v at pin 5 of U6901?

Almost 98% of the water damaged machines that I've worked on require a keyboard replacement. That's the first thing to get shorted out along with the power button. Next I would use a multimeter and test the mag-safe board: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2010 DC-Inボードの交換

After that, personally I would send it to Louis Rossman in New York for diagnostics. http://www.rossmanngroup.com

Unfortunately, I live in Maine, so sending it to Louis Rossman may not be exactly in the picture... The water came in through the back where the hard drive and other components are not, and I will be updating the post saying so. I'm not sure if it is the keyboard... I'm assuming you needed to replace the keyboards due to people spilling liquids from above onto them. Lastly, the laptop was closed, so I'm not sure if the parts were shorted...

definitely check the magsafe port in the computer to see if it is making a proper connection.

Louis defiantly knows what he's talking about, but it's not worth it to send it down there and get it fixed. I talked to Apple, and someone at the Genius Bar gave me free bottom case screws, and tried his best to get it working, but he thinks that the problem is with the on-board DC in, so I ordered a new one. I'll post the results.
