Do I have to replace the entire body (with screen)?

I dropped my laptop a couple times. The screen is now completely shattered, however there are no dead pixels or anything wrong with the lighting of the display.

Do I have to replace the entire body or just the glass panel? I am new to this.

I am usually VERY careful with my devices. I happened to almost fall down the stairs and I caught my laptop after the first step it tumbled but then I lost my balance and then re-dropped it and it went down 2 steps.

Luckily, I had a protective hard case on it so the top is no dented or scratched but the bottom shell fell off and now my lower body is dented and when I type (like right now) it is imbalanced. It is like a table with a shorter leg and I am tempted to put a sticker or something on the bottom of one of the legs. But I'm afraid I will just let this whole thing go (the idea of fixing my laptop) so I am letting it wobble.

The functions and such are fine. I put clear tape all over the screen so it doesn't fall off (would it?). I just don't want to bring it in anywhere to get fixed other than Apple (because I don't want my info and data exposed) so I want to do this on my own.

I've done other things my first time and fixing a computer has always been something I wanted to try... but I am afraid to mess up something. I mean, I have done things like, replace and repair a toilet and toilet system, ceiling fan, in-ground pool stuff..

I mean I guess the closest things to this would be replacing a ceiling fan (since there is electricity). Is this something I could do, with NO computer repair experience? Thanks!

@IamPhancyNancy - Sounds like you have two issues here. The first is the cover glass of the display is broken and your case is also warped. Both should be fixable but you will need the proper tools and take your time as you can also make things worse here.

OK, As you can see ZZZ is aiming you to also replace the glass and his comment on what you get is also important as you can get a second quality cover glass which has imperfections in them or get one that has passed quality inspection which are the ones that are treated with more care in the packaging. Here's the start of how to remove the display lid: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Display Replacement. Once you get to Step 20 we need to jump to a different series to see how the display is assembled and how it comes apart. Follow this guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 LCD Replacement picking things up at Step 15. Use care with the heat gun as you can melt the rubber gasket thats between the glass and the metal frame. You only need to go down to Step 22 here to get the cover glass off.

As to the warp'ed frame. Once you get the cover glass off check the lid and the body to see which is still warped its possible the loosening of the screws fixed things. If not we'll need to do some bending to square off things. But we'll need to remove parts before we go down that path. Let us know what is still bent and we'll walk you thought the rest. - Good Luck!

It's good to know you can curse as well. You're right, that was a pile of $@$* for an answer, I didn't read entire run on paragraph.

Buy glass, but don't buy glass with white paper protecting it. White paper glass is trash that came off a used computer, and it is often filled with crumbs, dust, and other defects. Get the glass with the protective sheet on both sides of it that peels off. You don't have to replace the entire assembly, that line of thinking is Apple service manual level stupidity!

Expect to pay $30-$50 for something good and $9-$20 for something that is trash.

How about a guide on how to do it? Aldo deleting an answer with down votes gets rid of the down votes and even grants you a badge. Plus I don't use that kind of language very often, I would mind it being gone. Besides a third of your up votes were given by me and this is the first down.
