MacBook Pro runs for only one or two seconds

Hey guys!

I had some problems with the monitor, one fan and the dvdrw, so I bought them from ifixitm followed the guides. And everything worked! But I realized my camera cable was broken as well. So I didn't put the screws yet! I am trying to get the money to buy the cable as well.

Anyways, in the meantime I used the mac and everything was just fine for more than 2-3 weeks(being without the screws, it's like a desktop pc, but that's ok)

Everything was fine and dandy until this morning, when it refused to start. If I press the power button, it starts and shuts down in less than a second. If I keep the power button pushed, it starts (I hear the dvdrw squicking, the fans rolling) but after a few seconds, the frontal led (on the push button to open the lid) starts blinking fast, and everything shuts down (fans stop, the hard drive makes a specific "out-of-power-sound")

I am guessing the led blinking fast is a sign and somebody might know what it means!

Is it a short-circuit?

Thank you, all for any advice that might get me to fix this problem

ygr

PS: I only kept the battery and it's the same thing. The same with only keeping the power cable and taking out the battery.

Can you give us a link to this "out of power sound"?

さんによる

i guess he means the pretty loud "click" that some hdd's generate when you switch the computer off

さんによる

It's the sound external HDDs make when you suddenly take out their power! I hope you know what I mean!

I have to mention that this happens when it shuts down if I hold the power button pressed for a few seconds (and it definitely comes from the HDD). Oherwise, if I just press the power button and release it fast, like you normally should do, the mac just shuts down in no more than a second. The HDD doesn't even have time to start. So obviously there are no "squicks".

Does anyone know what happens if you have problems with the RAM? Maybe that is what happened!

one little suggestion - if you press and hold the power button for around 4 seconds - the computer switches off!! (every "newer" computer has this kind of "kill switch")

the thing is that if I just press the power button to start the mac, it just starts and shuts down in less than a second! If I keep the button pressed something else happens that I mentioned in the main topic.

i would try to remove the ram, disconnect the hdd, the optical drive and all other stuff that is not needed to run the computer - only let the fans connected and try to boot the computer

I suggest you look inside of the machine and make sure you dont have any loose screws or parts rolling around inside because these can cause shorts.

I looked and looked! I now even got all the cables that go to the monitor, antenna, camera HDD, DvDRW out! I know how to handle a normal PC and I know it should start without all those mentioned above. I just won't boot (without a Hdd for example, but it should stay opened/powered). Well, nothing changed! No power after just one second! ..Or it has power for about 4-5 seconds if I keep the power button pressed. I have to mention that as soon as I release the power button (let's say, after just 2 seconds, I shuts down)

@Todd Johnson

Nope, unfortunately. I ended up selling it piece by piece. I still have a few.

The flashing of the LED is normal. In some models it's been a kind of PMU reset procedure.
