Why my phone screen is black out?

Can you please help me. I have a Samsung Galaxy s 3 and the screen is completely black out but I when I turn on the phone it make noise and and bottom keys light up and also the LED light up, the buttons works it just screen is black out.please help me. Thank you

PS. I got this phone from someone with the phone screen was black out and I been like ever since I receive from that person
