Replace by an SSD

Hi, can I replace my HDD hard drive of my mac for a SSD? What are the requirements? The SSD just needs to be SATA II?

Thank you.

Yes you can. You need to find a hard drive (or in your case a solid state hard drive) that is no more than 9.5mm tall (0.37 inches) and uses a SATA II connection. That's it.

I might add most SSD's today are auto sensing to match the I/O speed of the system.

Now the tough part ... SSD's are still pricy when you get one larger than 256 GB in size. You do want to leave 1/4 to 1/3 of the drives space free so the OS has room. So add that in with what you currently have when yo think about the size of the SSD you want to get. Your other option here is a SSHD which is a hybrid drive. Here the drive uses a deep SSD for caching so you gain the speed of the boot-up but still have the space of a traditional drive.
