This accessory may not be supported- Charging Problem

Hi,

I have been encountering with a charging problem since I updated my iPhone 6`s version from 8.1.2 to 8.1.3 a month ago.

Everytime, when I plug my charger, the phone gives " This accessory may not be supported" error.

I`ve tried every suggestions which were made in the different websites. None of them worked. I have no idea what to do.

My charger and cable are an original Apple products so it is not a product problem. I`ve updated my phone to 8.2, it is still giving the same error so it may not be a software issue. So what is the problem?

I would be glad if someone could help me.

Many thanks,

Heffer

Some 3rd party car chargers have been known to burn phones by chance did you use one? And Apple does have a chip inside the Lightning connector on the cable so its also possible it could be bad or not be a real Apple cable. Have you tried a second cable?

You may want to visit an Apple Store to see if they can help you here. Is the phone still under warranty? The only other thing here, you may have zapped the Lightning port connector on the phone.

I haven't used any 3rd party charger. I bought this phone in the USA and the warranty is not valid in the country that I live right now. Apple does not help me about the problem. I also tried other cables none of them worked, but mine worked on my friends iPhone without any problem.

It is charging when I close my phone but not when it is opened. It is definitely a software issue..

Do you any idea to deal with this issue, I would be really glad if you could help

I'm using 8.1.3 on my iPhone 6 and not seeing the issue. So I don't think its a software issue within iOS natively, if it was others would be seeing it. Have you altered iOS in some way (jailbreak)? You could try resetting your phone, then you could try wiping your phone and re-installing things being careful not to install anything that could be suspect (install a few apps at a time).

I tried to reset my iPhone and set up it as a new one, didn't work. I also updated it to 8.2 to see if it works or not. It was working perfectly for the first day then suddenly it crashed again.

I haven't done jailbreak or something as well. It was working perfectly until I updated it to 8.1.3. Even 8.2 couldn't help my problem.

Even still, if there is a nearby Apple Store I would make the trip. At least they can at least tell you what it is (its still free).

I also regularly get these 'This accessory may not be supported" problems. I do use a lot of different cables. Really a lot. Mostly certified aftermarket cables, sometimes apple cables, sometimes non certified ones. I found out that the device doesn't always complain directly. Most of the time it accepts the cable for many times, and then starts complaining with the same cable sooner and sooner. Odd, I admit.

I`ve just bought a new certified Apple cable from a Apple store, I`ll see what will happen.

What do you recommend for this problem? I can't spend my money to buy a new cable for each problem :/

I hear you, As I stated above its worth the trip to the Apple Store if its near. to at least learn what the problem is.

Unfortunately, i bought my phone when I was living in the States. The warranty is not valid in the country that I live right now. So they did not help me whether it is a software issue or a cable.

Therefore, I bought a new cable and charger again, I`ll use this one instead of the old.

Are you sure its a 'real' Apple Store? I've visited a few now around the world and they have always been helpful even though I clearly didn't buy my hardware with them. Apple prides its self on being supportive to all who own Apple products no matter where you bough it. Thats one of the things that made them what they are today. If you don't mind telling us where are you? and what store did you visit? I'll pass the word on to my corporate Apple contacts.

I currently live in Istanbul,Turkey. There are currently two official stores in Turkey. I visited both. None of them understood what the real problem is.

The Iphones bought in the USA is not warranted in Turkey. Yes, of course they tried to help me but I can't change my phone under its warranty to get a new phone if this is a phone related problem, for instance. They told me to reset my phone and set it up a new phone which I have done many times and did not work. I told them that I ve already done it. They told me that they can't help it since it is not under warranty in Turkey.

This happens to me all the time (I don't use a original charger, though I use one that will fit the spec (mine is 1A output). This didn't happen when I kept my iPod Touch on iOS 7. I had to update it to 8 and it started to happen.

I don't think it's an issue so long as it charges fine. The only issue would be if your charger is not rated to a high enough output current (output amps... usually .7A 1A, or even more). If the charger has too low a output current rating for your particular USB device you're charging, then the charger could overheat and possibly fry itself. Your phone will be fine regardless of the charger. Too high an output current does not exist, as the phone will only draw what it needs from the charger. The charger does not force current into the battery. So a higher output current rating on the charger is safest.

Overcharging can be an issue though, it's best to unplug a phone when it's finished charging, leaving it charging can harm battery life.

TL;DR... You do NOT need original apple chargers. The 99 cent cables on eBay work just fine. Just make sure your charger can handle your device.

The thing is I can only charge my phone with my original Apple charger by closing my phone.

Otherwise, somehow my phone thinks it is a third party charger and gives me error message. It won't be a output issue since I have been trying to use an Apple charger and cable.

による

I even got this message some time in the past using an original cable and an aftermarket (el cheapo I admit) charger.

On the other hand, we source a lot of accessories through Chinese manufacturers, and many times lightning cables are marked as 'works with IOS7', 'doesn't work with A8', 'works with IOS8' etc. More recent cables tend to work better (read: don't get those 'accessory not supported' message too often).

による

I always get the message when I try to charge my phone with this charger :)
