Hi,
After upgrading the HD in my imac 20" to a Samsung 850 evo ssd, I get stuck on a white scree after trying to boot up from flash drive with a bootable version of Mavericks.
Doesn't seem like the SSD is being recognized??
Anyone have any ideas of why?

What happens when you try booting up under the USB thumb drive with the Samsung drive disconnected, are you able to boot up? If not then you have a problem with the thumb drive setup which you'll need to fix using another Mac to redo.
I would also check to make sure your firmware was up to date. Follow this Apple T/N: EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs.
