iMac Retina -Can the stand be unscrewed and removed after disassembly?

Hello - Would very much like to know: Can the stand be unscrewed and removed after disassembly? I see there are 3 screws on each side of the internal spring attachment but even if these are removed it is unclear to me if the stand can then be detached from the large metal backing if the screws / springs are removed. Does it appear as though it can be removed?

From what you are asking I think you're looking for a VESA mount version of the iMac 27" Retina 5K . If that is correct then you'll need to order this unit: iMac with Retina 5K display and Built-in VESA Mount Adapter.

If you get the VESA mount version you can then have a removable foot fashioned to mate up with the VESA mount. We have a few older 27" iMacs which we did this so its more compact for traveling.

Not to be a pest, but I came here with this exact question and this answer doesn't really answer the original question. He wants to know if you can remove the stand from the iMac Retina 5K with stand (not buy a whole new computer).

Since I purchased mine 5 months ago, Apple will not let me exchange it. So I need to know if I can grab these iFixit tools, take apart my iMac, and install the $40 adaptor.

Sadly, there is no after-sale refit that I know of. Even if it were possible you would need to take the system completely a part! Which is just not cost and risk acceptable in my mind (besides there are no parts available). Yes, Apple didn't offer a VESA mount unit at the intro of the 5K model which messed up a lot of people. You'll need to talk with them to see what they can do for you. Sorry :-{

He said "I would like to buy 2 of these" - maybe he meant 2 removal tools? And the title of the post was "Can the stand be unscrewed and removed after disassembly?" Anyway... that really sucks. :(

I have scoured the internet and still can't get the answer. If you disassemble your 'thin edge" iMac and unscrew the stand from the inside is there a way to attach any sort of VESA mount to the existing holes????

I have already opened my iMac to install a new HDD and an SSD. It's not that difficult - but requires a bit of time.

It should be a yes or no answer.

Sorry no, there is no means to attach a VESA mount system (like what Apple sells) to a foot version of the 'Thin Series' 27" iMacs. Apple does not offer any after sale kits to upgrade a foot version of iMac. There are a few 3rd part kits that attach to the foot to mount the iMac to a VESA mount system. These will work across both the 21.5 & 27" iMac's. But remember! This bracket attaches to the foot it does not replace it! and they are expensive!
