Microphone stopped working when making calls, hands free works?

When I make a call on my LG G3 the person on the other end hears me either in a muffled voice or not at all, when I make a call on speaker phone the other person hears me perfectly. I have tested this by making calls to many different people with the same result each and every time, so it is microphone related. I spoke to Verizon and they agreed saying the the the regular phone microphone and the hands free microphone are 2 separate microphones. They offered to replace the phone under warranty, however that means I would be getting a re-built unit and will have lost the 40+ hours I have spent to customize my phone. When I stopped into a Verizon store they "blew out the microphone" just to certain there was not any dirt in it, any ideas on what I might do to correct the problem?

I've been having the same issue with my AT&T variant and can not seem to find an answer online. It seems to have started when I installed a custom ROM

You will not damage the microphone by pushing through. It's a worth a tear down though. There is a rubber insert in the phone that you can take out carefully and clean with a needle or in my case, a mechanical pencil lead. Take note of the board and carefully using a q tip gently wipe the mic if you see some debris. Tear down would be the screws that you see, pop the bottom bezel off, and then the top. There are two cables you will need to remove to access the boot, they are near the headphone area. Pop em off carefully and you should see the little black boot which will come right out. My phone was extremely bad, cleaning the port out and completely fixed it. Good luck

The audio from your Hands Free device is being picked up by the microphone in that device and being sent to the phone via radio (bluetooth) which explains why it works and the built in microphone doesn't.

The electret microphone in the phone is very small, usually less than 4 mm in diameter. Likewise the hole in the case to let in the sound. The hole is about 1 mm.

In the case of muffled audio, it is possible that a small particle lodged in the hole and is partially blocking the sound pressure from reaching the microphone. It might be possible to very carefully remove a particle from the hole using a straight pin.

DO NOT push the pin into the hole. You WILL damage the microphone.

Replacing the microphone is not a typical DIY task. Unless you have superior soldering skills and soldering equipment designed for working on Surface Mount Devices (SMD), I guarantee you will fail at replacing the microphone. Which leaves you with two choices: Replace the whole phone or use it only with a bluetooth microphone.

Replacing parts in LG products has become much easier over the years, no soldering required, parts will clip onto the sockets on the boards in the phone.

Same problem on lg 420n

Looks like android 6 is the worst off all time.

Also problems whit srean , light sensor, case, sd card write protected, otg, mowing apps to sd,...

Now, to somebody to hear me i hawe to use, wear headphones

i wil try to tear it down.

hi to everyone who is having the mic problem on lg g3 where the you can hear the pesrson you have called wearing headphones but they can not hear you, the way to fix this problem is to use the original lg g3 headphones as this phone doesn't work with other headphones like samsung and other brands.
