The LCD Shield doesn't come off when opening the phone

So I was trying to replace the battery on my iPhone 5 but when I tried to take out the screen, only the glass came out and the shield remained. I cannot take the shield out, the screen is still functional (I put it back again) but what should I do to take the LCD shield off too? Thanks.
