Home button/ lightning connector

My home button ribbon recently broke. I haven't replaced it yet because my phone won't stay connected to iTunes. I figured I would get that taken care of first because I know how to use the assistive touch function. I recently put in a new battery and a new lightning cable thinking it would fix the problem. But Ive had no luck. Then I had a thought. I noticed that the home button is connected to the Lightning cable. My question is, is it possible that my phone won't stay connected to iTunes or charge properly because there is absolutely no home button connection? I'm getting frustrated because when I connect to iTunes, it goes through the whole process of trying to update, then about 20 minutes in it says it lost connection. Please help.

Use another charger cable incase that one is faulty

I use to have issues with my phone, it turns oput that the plug for the charger was in fact dirty and had built up dust and stopped it from charging.

If you have the little metal stick it came with (for opening the sim card) use that and get the dirt/dust out of it then try and charge. Hopefully it should work.

It's not the cable. I've tries 4 different original Apple cables all with the same outcome.

I can tell you the home button not being connected isn't the problem. I never connect the home button whilst testing the LCD and it is always fine. What do you mean by it wont stay connected? does the phone still function okay despite this?
