iMac won't boot after hard drive replacement

I just finished replacing the hard drive of my 20" Intel iMac per the tutorial on this website and a with an ifixit suggested 1tB drive sold on this site. I just got the machine back together and can't seem to boot up off the OS 10.4.8 install disc. I get the startup sound the apple logo comes on the screen and then it reboots and reboots and reboots.... It does this when i hold the option and when I hold the "C" keys.

I did target disc mode form my laptop and used disc utility to format the drive remotely but still getting same symptoms.

Any ideas?

Can you install it remotely? Target disk mode on iMac, start on disk on another and install into that partition? Have you tried 10.5? 10.6? Is the DVD specialized (came with a mac), or is it a generic DVD (as if you buy one off the shelf at apple)? If its "specialized" it will only work with the mac it came with.

I found my 10.5 disc that came with the machine and successfully ran install disc one (hooray). But now Install disc 2 failed (booo). I'll run disc utility if it fails again. Oh yea... and also remove the front glass panel again to remove a pesky dog hair that found it's way onto the lcd.

Thanks Gabe!

Install disc two is simply just applications such as iLife and stuff like that I believe... its no necessary as far as I know. Also if this answers the question, please accept it so it can be filed as resolved.
