SSD + HDD setups installed new HDD but it wont work

Just installed a new HDD, upgraded from 500gb to 1tb I used the WD scorpio blue but now it wont allow me to create folders or transfer files (BTW this is in my optical drive slot) I cant even do an erase on disk utility "couldn't unmount disk" but when I removed it and installed it on an HDD enclosure I was able to do a reformat

What would be the problem the caddy or the sata cable? or any other solutions that I forgot to make when I installed the new HDD?

Update

Im using yosemite my my sdd contains the apps and my hdd contains the media files I did not reformat the hdd just my newly installed hdd, Im using a generic caddy.

Bluerthanlou - Did you read the OWC note I pointed to you? The issue has nothing to do with the carrier but the drives inability to talk to the system at the needed SATA speed though the carrier. You will need to get a fixed speed SATA II drive to put in your optical drive carrier.

Please review this OWC note in Red at the bottom: OWC Data Doubler.

Many MacBook Pros can't support SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) HD's in the optical carriers. It makes no difference who's carrier you use the issue is the Intel controller chip Apple used and the speed of the CPU (GHz).

You will need to go with a different HD or set the drive to compatibility mode - SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) using a jumper.

Frankly, I would go with a SATA II drive and make sure it has crash protection. Or, I would forget the dual drive setup. Instead I would swap out the HD for a SSHD which will give your system some zip! I like Seagate's SSHD units. Here's a link that explains what they are: Seagate Laptop SSHD. Even though these drives have SATA port speed sense it can't deal with the optical drives odd SATA port speed, so don't try that here.

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (for example: what OS you're using -there's a lot of those, did you reformat the drive, what caddy you're using (it may have a throughput issue), the blue drive model number,) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it.

From your description it's obvious that there's some sort of read/write problem but more information is needed to narrow down what could be the issue. I suspect that the optical port will not support the drive or caddy you have put together.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it accepted.
