How to replace the Note II screen adhesive?

The guides here and on youtube do not show how to replace the double-sided narrow adhesive tape between the screen and the assembly.

Yet the adhesive is sold as a part on ebay, and so it seems that the outer screen can be glued/unglued from the digitizer and the LCD.

If the narrow tape is all that needs to be reinserted, is it necessary to remove the glass (and almost surely shattering it in the process), or is it possible to just insert the double-sided adhesive tape?
